Happy Monday! We had a bright and sunny weekend but it looks like we’re in for some rain today…and I’m ok with that. It does make it a bit easier to sit in the office on a Monday when the weather is so-so anyway.
Friday was a weird day, mainly because I was just so tired. After my day at work, I went straight home and took a nap for about an hour. The sun was still warm/shining when I woke up, so I pushed myself to go out for a little walk to get some fresh air and move around (while listening to the Watch What Crappens podcast recap of Below Deck Mediterranean).
Ended up going for 3 miles, and came home to the radio on while my boyfriend made a whole dinner- turkey meatloaf on collard greens and a summer salad, plus a side of rice. I was in heaven 🙂
Saturday was a bit of a whirlwind. I woke up and did my scheduled workout (Dirty 30 Extreme!) and left for Milbridge. My dad was at work so I didn’t get to see him, but made some crockpot pulled pork for him when he got back.
Also made some smoothies using the new Vegan Cafe Mocha Shakeology, it was delicious. I’m so used to the Chocolate Vegan- not a fan of Strawberry flavored things generally, and with being pregnant don’t want to overdo Vitamin A, so I was excited when they announced the new vegan flavors.
Did some chores in Milbridge and got to hang out with my brother and his fiance, who were visiting for the weekend. Bro mowed the lawns (last summer I came down every weekend minus a handful to do this, but can’t this year…it does bum me out to feel less helpful that way), and I finished weeding out the walkway. When I came in to finish laundry etc, his fiance and I were talking about alien movies. My brother and I both get really freaked out by this stuff- especially like Signs and The Fourth Kind. Something about the unknown/things we have NO control over maybe? Funny story- I was 11 or 12 when Signs came out. My room in Milbridge has a smaller, back room attached (my compensation for being the only room without water view), and it was kind of our ‘home office’ where my brother and I would do homework. About two weeks after watching that movie, around 9 or 10 at night, my brother was walking by my bed to get to the smaller room to do a homework assignment he’d forgotten about. Since it was kind of dark and I was half asleep, all I could see was this tall, lanky figure skulking past me, and I woke up screaming bloody murder, thinking it was a tall gray…
Anyway, his fiance listened to me ramble about Signs and Scary Movie 3 for a really long time…I still feel a little guilty about it but she was a good sport. Most of the time my family will just cut me off if I’m getting too rambly so having a captive audience for once was new and exciting 🙂
Back in Bar Harbor for the night, I stopped over at my office for a beta-testing party for a new website that is launching this coming weekend! It’s basically a one-stop shop for gift certificates here on MDI, and the goal is not only to make the shopping process easier (most of the shops just have you go inside to get a gift card, which is tough if you live far away and want to get one for a friend), but to support the local economy year-round. You can check out the project on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/Gift-MDI-628613290663757/
Sunday we went to brunch in Ellsworth (me, mom, my boyfriend, brother, and his fiance). It was a lot of talking, laughing (per usual, I choked after my brother said something ridiculous). Mom was talking about how baby showers apparently have themes (?) so she was trying to come up with one for my family baby shower, and my brother suggested Transformers. Pretty typical stuff 🙂
After driving back to the island, I was pretty worn out and slept for about an hour. When I woke up, it was chores, studying, and more chores. I went for a hike later in the afternoon, after it had cooled off a bit. I went up Champlain via the Beachcroft Trail which is a bit steeper up and down, but definitely still doable (no ladders, for instance).
I did a bit of a cooldown along the Sieur de Monts trail by the parking lot since it was quite a bit of quad/hamstring work getting up and down, for a total of 3 miles.
Back at home, I did a bit more cleaning and some cooking. Fun fact- I’d never tried cooking drumsticks before, so I was kind of nervous about ruining them. I made a garlic breadcrumb mix and baked half of them (using this recipe from Pretty Practical Pantry), and put the other half in the crockpot (yanno, dividing the risk in case I ruined them :)). I also made some Double Chocolate Chip cookies (halved the recipe so we’d only have a dozen instead of two dozen…and of course I did some vigorous taste-testing of the cookie dough).
And, my brother brought this May basket from my grandmother in Thomaston. She makes these every year and it’s one of my favorite things 🙂 I love the pink and sparkly tissue paper, almost like a unicorn! (She even made them last year when recouping from a few months of chemotherapy).
How was your weekend?
Is there a particular genre of movies that freaks you out more than others?
Any goals for the upcoming week?
