After a family emergency on Thursday night, my weekend had a bit of a shake up that made it less routine. Fortunately everyone is okay, but there is a long road of recovery ahead. It also meant that my brother came for a quick visit over the weekend, which was awesome because I hadn’t seen him since Thanksgiving. The other downside was that I wasn’t allowed to go visit, since the nature of the issue was infectious disease and I’m just over 4 months pregnant now.
Since I was bummed about not physically being able to offer my support, I decided to do the next best thing: make a care package!
Care packages are super fun, and usually I like a little more time to create something, but hey, life doesn’t always play along with my script 😉
In this care package I threw together kleenex, disinfectant wipes, organic hard candies, NutThin Almond crackers, Annie’s Organic Tomato Soup with Bunny Pasta, Lemon Honey Tea Spoons, chocolate (which makes EVERYTHING better), and a little sign that says “I’ve got sunshine on a cloudy day.” I also made one of my quick and easy desserts- apple and berry tart. The prep is fairly easy and then you just pop it in the oven! I haven’t made a casserole in a while and figured this was not the day to start.
My brother and I stopped by my Mom’s to socialize, and since it was below zero out with windchill, I hopped on the treadmill for a 6 mile run.
Also, how cute is this whale tub?? It was one of the first things I added to my registry, and my mom bought it for us last week. I’m a little upset it doesn’t come big enough for me 🙂
And I had to share this post-run refresher. Polar seltzer + this blood orange sparkling drink, with a few ice cubes, so delicious!
After the run, I went to my dad’s house for the usual weekend craziness. Cooking for the week (sweet potatoes, broccoli, baked chicken breasts, and my first experiment with meatloaf–success!), batch smoothie making, and general chores. For some reason it seemed like I had more time to get things done…might have been a weird mental thing since I was there a day early though. Plus dad had a fire going, which was perfect. (Sidetone- I used to be afraid of putting wood in the stove, especially since I burnt myself at least three times right where the glove ends on my arm, but after living in a primarily wood heated place for the past 2-ish years, I’ve been desensitized).
I wore myself out fairly early (8 p.m….) and went to bed trying to watch the season finale of Taboo. Of course, I slept through it again. Third time is a charm, right??
Sunday I picked up an extra shift at my part time job, so I ran at my mom’s house again (7.5 miles), showered, and was off to the island. After work, got another 3 slow miles in for a little over 10.5 for the day. Splitting up runs is definitely helpful for scheduling, but I’ve noticed that my second run is a much slower pace. I probably couldn’t have done more than that 3 miles. My maternity back support belt came in and I tried running with it, but it kept riding up over my belly, so I’m thinking Baby Z will have to grow a bit more before I can run with this. It does work for weights/walking/everyday activity, though!
Took a really unflattering shot of my dinner- chicken and avocado salad. Since I missed brunch this morning I decided to visit my boyfriend at work for some food, and caught the tragic ending of the Celtics/Suns game.
I’ve been looking for safe skin care since getting pregnant. Not only is pregnancy a time of crazy hormones, I have a history of cystic acne/general acne problems that I had prescription medication for. Belli was recommended by a few different sources as “pregnancy safe” skincare, so I’m giving it a try. I’ll have a better review after using it for a week or so. I will say the main ingredient colloidal sulfur which gives it a funny odor. It doesn’t bother me- luckily my nausea was fairly minimal and I never had to deal with full blown morning sickness, but besides that I’m looking forward to giving this a try.
And, I just heard that the care package was a huge hit, so overall success! Hopefully I will get cleared for a visit next weekend, but until then, I have a little peace of mind. Hope everyone had a great weekend and here’s to a whole new week 🙂
